Ear Tube Update

Yesterday Suri visited Dr. Hurley, her ENT so he could look to see if her ear tube was still misplaced in her ear canal. Last week Suri was running a fever and complaining that her ear hurt. I made her an appt with her pediatrician who confirmed that Suri's left ear tube had become dislodged and was sitting in her ear canal. ( I could have sworn the Dr told me her ear tubed had come out months ago... but apparently her left one had not. The dr. couldn't tell if there was fluid behind the ear drum or not however the next day, Suri was in excruciating pain and her ear began to drain. Dr. Hurley confirmed that her ear drum had ruptured and that was the source of her pain... poor kiddo. She was hurting so badly. After removing her tube, and cleaning out quite a bit of wax, he said all looked good and we are to return in 4 weeks to test Suri's hearing once again.

When we were at the Pediatrician's office, I talked to Dr. Engel about Suri's daily complaints that her legs, feet and sometimes arms hurt. She has been complaining on and off about having joint pain for the past couple of months with the complaints increasing now to multiple times per day. I figured she was probably going through growing pains but in the back of my mind lies the possibility of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. The Dr measured Suri and confirmed that she has grown 1.5 inches in the past 4 months (since her 3 year appointment). Some children don't grow that much in an entire year!!!  Suri weighs 43.8 lbs and is 44.5 inches tall! Dr Engle is also leaning more toward growing pains although some of Suri's complaints are a bit more abstract than those that go along with typical growing pains. She feels it is safe to just do comfort care until spring and see if Suri's pain eases up any. If not, we will further evaluate. I pray these aches and pains are just growing pains and nothing more serious. Suri is honestly complaining multiple times a day as well as waking through the night saying how badly her legs, feet and arms are aching....

That's pretty much our past couple of weeks in a nutshell. I plan to post Suri's 3 year photos on here soon. Thanks again to Kari Green for capturing Suri's personality- she is growing up all to fast!
