Life... as we know it: Weekend "buzz"

Rewinding to Friday...

Friday was Suri's trial swim class at Aqua Safe. Just as Suri was really beginning to enjoy Gymboree again, I decided to take her out of Gymboree and put her in swimming lessons... (hmmmph). At the beginning of April Suri seemed to be getting tired of Gymboree and therefore I decided with the weather warming up and us spending more and more time pool side, it would be a perfect opportunity to begin swimming lessons. I therefore cancelled our Gymboree lessons beginning in May. Of course, upon the cancellation of Gymboree, Suri decided to become overly obsessed with it and insisted in having me sing the songs to her on a daily basis. She also decided to participate full heartedly in each activity at Gymboree the remaining 3 weeks we were there :) Little stinker.
Anyway, Gymboree is over (for now) and we had our trial class at Aqua Swim on Friday. Suri was quite eager to get her swimming suit on and go in the water... until she realized the sweet lady who introduced herself as Miss Ashley really meant business once we got into the pool! There was no taking our sweet time playing around in the water. She handed me a rubber duckie and informed me of the proper way to hold my child in the water (sandwiched between my 2 hands and held out to my side). As soon as Suri took interest in the duckie, she tossed it out of her reach and instructed us as to how to get to the duckie. Suri caught on real fast to the whole outcome of the song"ring around the rosie" end eventually held he breath as she stared up at me, (eyes 10x their regular size) from under the water. A 30 minute class seemed like an eternity as I juggled about a clingy 18 month old in a class of little dolphins! I asked Miss Ashley how long the other kids in her class had been swimming (as they could basically fend for themselves in the water). She informed me that they were on their 3rd and 4th class and that I should rest assured that Suri would be doing just as well in a couple of weeks.
Suri truly did do well and despite her adamant "NO's" that she would say before attempting any of the activities we were to do, she was fairly compliant and participated as best she could. Exhausted, was an understatement in describing Suri post class. She was so tired she barely stayed awake until we were out of the parking lot! Onward ho we go! We "Officially" begin her swimming lessons next Friday. When Grammy asked Suri if she went to swimming lessons, Suri replied "yes" (with a head nod), and then when Grammy asked Suri if she had FUN at swimming, Suri replied with a stern "NO". Grammy and I both had to laugh...

Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to take any pictures of Suri at swimming. Its a bit difficult to take pictures while swimming with your child. And I didn't want to be the creeper that brings a camera into the changing area... (ha). So, next week, on Suri's "official first day" of swimming lessons, I will take a photo of her to post.

The rest of the weekend was pretty low key. We spent most of our time out at Grandpas house. Suri can't quite say "Grandpa" yet but she has perfected it the best she can by saying "PaPa" and she asks for Grandpa all the time these days! She sure does love her Grammy and Grandpa and loves to spend time in the backyard at their house. Luckily the weather was nice and we were able to spend most of Saturday with our whole family. Aunt Ashley and Uncle Don came over for the day, Aunt Lindsay, her friend Melissa and little Trenton came over to play as well. Suri loved her day by the pool! Saturday evening, our time outside was cut short due to a huge swarm of bees that colonnaded in one of the trees in Grandpa's back yard. There were bees everywhere and we could practically feel their buzzing. Once they all landed in the tree, it was like a big black circle. We all ran inside and watched them through the window... definitely didn't need to end the day with bee stings!

Today, my good friend Stacy came over for breakfast. She was in town for the weekend from San Diego and came by for a visit this morning. Unfortunately I had left my camera out at Grandpa's house so I was unable to get any photos. After breakfast with Stacy, Suri and I went out to Grandpa's for the rest of the day. Unfortunately the bees were still in their colony and therefore we had to be extra cautious while in the backyard. That proved a bit difficult to do with a wondering 18 month old and 2 dogs. So our outdoor adventure ended sooner than later. The pros of getting some sun over the possibility of one of us ending up in the hospital over a gazillion bee stings seemed like a no brainer and we spent the rest of our afternoon inside. Suri enjoyed playing hide and seek with Grammy and her giggles could be heard for miles : )
